FAQ: Seat Belt Restoration

How long does it take?

It takes 1 to 2 weeks to send a quote, and (once we have approval) 4 to 6 weeks for the work.

Do we call with a quote?

No. We send a typed quote, so that the customer has a copy to look at.

Can we sell just webbing?

Yes; however, for any color (other than black) we have to get approval on a color sample first.

Does the customer have to send in cores?

On most models of domestic cars thru 1973, we can supply cores needed for partial or complete seat belt sets. On Corvettes, we can supply cores up thru 1982. We also have a large supply of misc. parts in our warehouse. There is always a chance we may have a part for later model seat belts.

Do we restore customer’s parts, or take them as trade?

Normally, we restore customer’s parts; but in some cases we can provide similar or better-looking parts for a charge, take them as a trade or buy the parts outright.

What do we do with labels/tags?

If labels are in good condition and appropriate for the vehicle, we can transfer them. If not, we may be able to provide originals or reproductions.

Can we provide “concours” restoration?

In most cases, we can provide a concours restoration, including correct date-coded labels, webbing, and stitch pattern.

Can we re-use pre-existing webbing currently on the belts?

We do not re-use old seat belt webbing. We consider old webbing to be a safety hazard and may contaminate our sewing equipment with dirt, rust or grease.

What if a customer only wants partial restoration?

If a customer’s hardware is in good condition, we can just replace the webbing. If hardware needs rechroming or recoloring, but the customer does not want new webbing, then we can restore the hardware and return it without sewing onto webbing. Rusted hardware should always be rechromed/replated or rust will continue to grow and spread to new webbing. Label work is always optional.

How will the customer know how much restoration will cost?

After receiving the seat belts, we will evaluate them and mail, email or fax a detailed quote. If seat belts are a color other than black we will mail an actual webbing sample for customer to approve.

What if the customer decides not to have belts restored after receiving a quote?

Seatbelts will be returned at customers expense.

Are our seat belts NOS?

They are made from restored original parts. The parts we supply are the best we have but are original so they may show some imperfections.
